Abbott & Cruz: “Support #DAPANow!” – Call Them July 31st

Join the Legalization for All (L4A) Network on Friday, July 31st to demand Deferred Action for Parents of Americans (DAPA) Now!

In November of 2014, President Obama used his Executive Order power to expand Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA) to parents of U.S. citizen or legal resident children. This DAPA program would cover almost four million undocumented, and would suspend deportations that are breaking up families. 26 Republican governors wanting to stifle this step in the right direction for the undocumented, decided to file a lawsuit in court. Federal Judge Henan ruled in favor of this lawsuit which resulted in the blocking of DAPA. Texan Senator Ted Cruz who recently supported Donald Trump’s extremely racist statements against Mexicans and immigrants also supported the blocking of DAPA.

In New Orleans, on July 10 appeals judges were set to review DAPA and determine whether or not to continue blocking it. Over 500 immigrant rights activists joined the fight against the blocking of DAPA. Caravans traveled from California, Texas, Wisconsin and other states to New Orleans blasting the block. While activists rallied and made their demands clear, the block was announced to continue.

The Immigration Customs and Enforcement (ICE) Agency has been very non-secretive about its daily, family detention quotas. These massive detentions are ICE’s collaboration with for-profit prisons. Protests to stop the mass detentions and deportations of immigrant families have been happening in solidarity with those one of the largest family detention centers in the country – in Dilley, Texas. Senators across the country are supporting Dilley’s treatment of these families, but the resistance from the people against Dilley and detentions has only increased. One such action is coming from Minnesota Action Rights Committee (MIRAc) an immigrant rights group in Minnesota is urging Democrat Senator Klobuchar to act against Dilley.

Other attacks against undocumented immigrants is the recent denial of their children’s birth certificates like in the state of Texas. Over 20 immigrants have joined together in a lawsuit against Texas for refusing to allow them, as undocumented parents of U.S. Citizens access to their children’s birth certificates. Using the excuse that Mexican IDs are not valid forms of identification, is the excuse used to refuse turning over these birth certificates. Texas has historically lead the fight against Mexican and Central American immigrants, and with this latest attack is further upholding its racist views against these immigrants.

National call-in day against Texan Politicians responsible for the attacks against undocumented immigrants.
