Thank you to all of you who shared and participated in the National Call-In Day on Friday, the 13th against the Department of Homeland Security! The Legalization for All Network encouraged everyone to call DHS and demand that they take their #HandsOff! of California’s driver’s licenses for the undocumented. Licenses are set to be issued to those who do not have legal status in January of 2015.
Our call however was interrupted by the phone line from our original flyer, was disconnected. People reported to us that they could not leave messages either. We quickly acted and included the voicemail phone line for DHS commentary, instead.
The Legalization for All Network sees the removal of the original number as a direct answer to our efforts. DHS is unwilling to listen to the people pushing back against an obvious attempt to further discriminate the undocumented. We thank you for taking the time to participate in the call and for fighting for our California brothers and sisters!
In light of this, it is clear that, as well as ensuring road safety, the fight over the driver’s licenses is fundamentally a fight for equality and a battle to decide whether these licenses serve the interests of the undocumented or put them in greater danger.
Stay tuned, as we will continue to organize against injustices to all of the undocumented!
